Official 2026 Rulebook Updates
Volley Serve Clarity
The 2026 rulebook adds the word "clearly" throughout serve rules. Your paddle must clearly move in an upward arc, ball contact must clearly occur below your waist, and the paddle head must clearly stay below your wrist at contact. In officiated matches, borderline serves are now called as faults rather than giving the server the benefit of the doubt.
Spin Serve Clarification
Players are now explicitly forbidden from using their fingers to add spin to the ball during the serve release. While hand-applied spin was already prohibited, the 2026 language makes this unambiguous and easier for referees to enforce consistently.
Rulebook Reformatted & Renumbered
The entire rulebook has been reformatted for 2026. Rules have been renumbered (e.g., the visible release rule is now 7.b.3) with cleaned-up language throughout. The rules themselves remain the same — this is a structural reorganization for clarity, not a change in how the game is played.
Conduct & Tournament Authority
The rulebook strengthens authority to eject or discipline players for violence, harassment, or willful property damage at events. This reflects a renewed emphasis on safety and sportsmanship across sanctioned play.
